10 Easy Healthy Swaps!

Hello there! I heard you are trying to get rid of those few sneaky kilos which you gained when you blinked? If you anything like me, there is a healthy week – where everything magically falls into place and I get in a perfect routine of regular exercise and healthy eating. However, this is mostly followed by a super junk week – where I simply refuse to workout and need a chocolate cookie every night!

The game of losing and gaining weight is never ending and some days it get really difficult to stick to a healthy diet. But there are a few easy swaps which definitely help me stay on track and make me lose weight without even trying! Pssst, works really well for lazy bums like me! haha

Froyo

1. Ice Cream swaps with Frozen Yogurt and Fruit

Have those late night ice cream cravings? Ya I totally hear you! There’s nothing more comforting than a scoop of chocolate ice cream after dinner. But a scoop of ice cream equals bundles of sugar and cream loaded in calories! Frozen yogurt however is a much healthier alternative and won’t make you feel guilty the next morning.

2. Cheese swaps with Tofu/Paneer

Processed cheese is full of emulsifiers which are not good for our health, unfortunately cheese is really tasty and makes any dull dish a bright star! However, there is an alternative to this – Tofu/Panner. Both of these are rich in protein and will benefit you in many ways!

3. Fruit Juice swaps with Infused water

Now we all know that juicing fruits makes it lose all its nutrients and all that’s left behind is sugar! To curb the sweet carvings and lift up the energy, there is a better way – infused water. There are so many ways to make infused water – using fruits & herbs and they taste equally delicious!

4. Ghee swaps with Butter

I’ve recently discovered the innumerable benefits of good ol’ Indian Ghee and have started replacing butter with ghee! Regular butter consumption has been found to increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Ghee (purified butter) is easily available in all Indian kitchens and is much healthier than butter. Use it to make crispy pancakes, breakfast toasts and even to heal dry skin & chapped lips 😉

5. Beer swaps with Sangria

Who needs a bloated beer belly when you can enjoy a glass of wine infused with fruits and spices instead! A glass of wine is actually good for the heart and to top it with fresh fruits makes it even better 🙂 They are pretty easy to make and are perfect for those evening parties!

Dessert

6. Instant Noodles swap with Instant Oats

After a tiring day at work, all we need is a quick evening meal! And instantly we break a packet of instant noodles and slurp it up! These noodles, no matter how tasty they may be, are full of salt and unnecessary preservatives. Well the good news is that we have instant oats in multiple flavours readily available in the grocery stores! Trust me they are as delicious and filling as the noodles 🙂 Try this swap and you won’t regret it.

7. Cookies swap with Dried Fig

I know, I know, it sounds like a weird thing to swap cookies with dried fruit but it takes only a few bites to develop the taste and you won’t feel like binging on cookies ever again. How many times have we started with one little cookie and ended up finishing the entire box? Well, don’t worry, it happens with me too! However keeping a handful of dried figs right on the centre table won’t let you reach out for anything else.

8. Nutella swaps with Dark chocolate spread

Nutella has become a staple in so many houses and before we knew it we all got addicted to this sugary disaster! Nutella has very high saturated fat which is a straight door to diseases. Swap this so called “hazelnut spread” with a hommade dark chocolate spread. It takes only 2 minutes to melt dark chocolate in a microwave and it gives a very healthy alternative to those sugar toast cravings!

9. Coffee swaps with Lemon green tea

Do I really need to list down the side effects of coffee, naah I think we all are well aware of them 🙂 A great alternative (and really tasty) to coffee is a nice cup of hot green tea with lemon. It might take a few days to train your brain but you will love how happy you feel with this drink 🙂

and lastly…

10. Store bought swaps with Homemade!

It’s definitely really easy to buy stuff off the counter from the supermarket. But nothing can replace the wholesome homemade flavours – be it ground spices or purees! Everything tastes delicious when made fresh, doesn’t it? Start with small swaps and gradually step forward. You will never buy the preservative filled packaged garbage again 😉

I hope this post reminds you of living a healthy life and gives you some ideas to incorporate in your daily routine! Do share your ideas in the comments below so everyone can benefit from each other.

Floral Kimono

I’m in love with kimonos this season! They are light, comfy and so versatile! I recently got this blue floral kimono from ABOF and loved wearing it with a pair of shorts and black spaghetti. They are the best things to cover up on hot sunny days and yet be stylishly comfortable!

Coconut Coffee

Monsoon has almost left my beautiful city and Autumn is peeking from just around the corner 🙂 The evenings get quite chilled these days and I crave something hot, something cozy and something delightful. Coffee and coconut are two of my most favourite ingredients and mixing them resulted in a heavenly evening drink!

Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened full cream milk
  • a shot of espresso
  • tiny bit of melted chocolate and grated coconut

Dip the cup in melted chocolate and then in grated coconut to cover the rim. Pour in the espresso. Slowly pour in the milk. Done 🙂

The refreshing fragrance of coconut lifts up the spirits and is an instant energizer! Do give this a shot and let me know how you liked it!

Happy monsoon evenings!

Rose Gold Sandals

Shoe lust alert!

Rose gold being a really popular colour this year, I am losing my heart to everything from bracelets to sunglasses to shoes dipped in this shade!

Summers and sandals go hand in hand and I was looking for a rose gold pair of sandals everywhere! I found these pretty ones in a street shop in Mumbai and well, needless to say, I lost my heart to these!

The subtle hint of sophistication with oodles of charm I love this pair! Thank you to the shoe fairies who built this beautiful piece of art 🙂 Cheers to such amazing street finds!

Be a Pro at Travel Packing

I don’t know about you, but packing for a vacation is one the most exhilarating experiences for me! Yes I am a nerd like that and planning in general gives a massive adrenaline rush! So when it comes to packing for a vacation, I start as soon as I buy the tickets 😀

If you are looking for some guidance or tips on packing like a pro, then read on:

Step1: Mandatory Questionnaire

To begin with the packing we need to know the following:

  1. Where is the trip? (Is it to a Beach, Mountain, City, etc)
  2. How long is the trip? (a week, 10 days, a month)
  3. What’s the weather like? (summer, monsoon, snowy)

The above answers will be the guide to our suitcase and this will ensure we pack the most appropriate stuff. I mean, I wouldn’t wanna end up with a swimsuit in Antarctica right? 🙂

Pro-tip: Use a carry on bag instead of a suitcase for vacations. This has a lot more space and can easily be carried around on your back. Roll the clothing items so they take up less space.

Step2: Pre planning the outfits

Now we all know this is a very basic step right? But how many times have we ended up wondering which top goes with which skirt and which shoes go with the outfit? Well it’s a nightmare when none of the items are good enough to be paired with each other.

Worry not! When planning the outfits, put on the items which go together and take a picture (this included the accessories, shoes and bag!) Make sure that the items you pick can be worked in more than one ways – for example, choose a top which goes well with the skirt and a pair of shorts. This will help packing a lighter bag.

Pro-tip: A jumpsuit is a great piece of clothing! During day it can be converted into shorts, a top or function by itself, and in the evening pair it with a blazer or leather jacket!

Step3: Accessorize!

Accessories are the best way to go from dull to wow! Well we don’t really end up using our jewellery on a day to day basis and it just ends up sitting in our case waiting to die. Plan the evening outfits such that you can use some of the accessories which are not used as much.

After all, vacations are a great time to experiment with our style, dress up and take tons of pictures!

Pro tip: Use a sling bag to store your accessories. This will double up as a carry on for shopping/dinner trips! Also, choose the hues of jewellery so that they can be paired with multiple outfits – a silver, a gold and a bright coloured item would go with almost every outfit 🙂

Step4: A short & sweet travel vanity

Now now now, there is no need to pack the entire bag of toiletries for a vacation. Be smart and pick up sample sized of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc. I try to find the smallest sizes of hair brush, foot files and even toothpastes!

For the makeup, pick up the bare essentials. A red and a pink lipstick will go with almost every outfit. A small perfume, an eyeliner, a blush is all you need to look pretty!

Pro-tip: Use multipurpose products and don’t carry HUGE palates for everything! A dark foundation will double up as a contour kit, a lipstick goes smoothly as an eye shadow, and needless to say, a kohl makes the sexiest smokey eye! 🙂

Step4: Shoe sighting!

No matter where you are going, you only need TWO pair of shoes! 🙂

Pack a pair of flats and a pair of heels. Pink and black are the best colours to opt for as they pair well with almost every outfit.

Pro-tip: Want to carry that expensive perfume bottle? Worry not, carefully place it in a bubble wrap and tuck it in your shoes, it will stay intact. Push the shoes to the corners of your bag and they will ensure every space is used in the bag 🙂

Do remember that vacations should bring us joy not frustration. So don’t fret it you’ve left home without your headphones or your precious new jacket! There will be many more occasions to use them. Relax and enjoy your off-time with what you’ve got and enjoy the present!
